Privacy Policy

Updated May 13, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what Cerise Scholar collects, what is intended to stay on your trusted laptop, how hosted services are used, and what choices you have during the public laptop beta.

1. Summary

Cerise Scholar is designed as a laptop-first research workspace. The full AI-heavy source-file workflow is intended to run from a personal or trusted laptop where your local files, local workspace, local helper, and local AI tools can live.

Your private source files and local-agent workspace are intended to stay on your trusted laptop unless you choose a hosted feature that sends selected information to Cerise Scholar or a configured provider. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your private source files, prompts, or outputs to train Cerise Scholar models.

You can browse public pages such as the homepage, Help, Terms, and Privacy pages without creating an account. We do collect and process the account, authentication, consent, security, support, metadata, and hosted-feature information needed to operate the beta when you sign up, sign in, contact us, or use app features.

2. Personally identifiable information

Personally identifiable information means information that identifies or can reasonably be linked to a person, such as a name, email address, phone number, account identifier, mailing or home address, authentication details, device or network identifiers, support message content, or other information tied to your account or request.

Cerise Scholar tries to collect only what is needed for the product feature, account flow, support request, security purpose, or beta operation at issue.

3. Information you provide

When you create or use an account, we may process information you provide, such as your email address, authentication provider details, name, phone number, address details if you choose to provide them, profile fields, consent records, waitlist or signup answers, support messages, and email update preferences.

If you contact us for help, we process the information in your message so we can understand and respond. Please do not include private source files, sensitive research data, passwords, authentication codes, or unrelated personal information in support messages unless we specifically ask for the minimum needed to solve a support issue.

Email may not be secure against interception. If a support question is sensitive, avoid sending passwords, full datasets, private source files, health information, financial information, government identifiers, or other sensitive personal data by ordinary email.

If you opt in to email updates, we may use your email address to send product updates, beta announcements, setup reminders, and research workflow tips. We use those email preferences for the topics or notices you selected, and you can opt out where the email or account flow provides that choice.

4. Information collected automatically

When you visit or use Cerise Scholar, we may automatically process technical information such as IP address, browser type, device characteristics, operating system, referring pages, approximate region, timestamps, session events, error logs, security events, and basic usage metadata.

This may include the internet domain or network from which you access the app, the IP address used to access the app, browser and operating-system details, the date and time of access, URLs or app pages visited, referring URLs, login username or account identifier where applicable, and diagnostic information needed to investigate a known security, abuse, or reliability issue.

This information helps us keep the beta available, protect accounts, debug errors, understand which pages and features need improvement, prevent abuse, maintain security, and manage the app. Raw logs are kept only as long as reasonably needed for those purposes, subject to backup, legal, security, and operational needs.

We may use cookies or similar browser storage for essential authentication, session, security, and product functionality. Disabling browser storage may prevent parts of Cerise Scholar from working.

5. Local files and Local Agent activity

The Cerise Scholar Local Agent is intended to run locally on your trusted laptop, usually through a loopback address such as 127.0.0.1. It may help check setup status, prepare a local workspace, read or index source files, connect to local AI tools such as Ollama, and clean generated local data when you approve those workflows.

Cerise Scholar is designed so private source-file processing for AI-heavy workflows can stay on your laptop. The Local Agent should not give Cerise Scholar broad remote control of your computer, and it should not require unrelated permissions such as contacts, SMS, call logs, calendar, microphone, camera, or browser location.

Local privacy also depends on your own laptop security. Anyone with access to your device, operating-system account, downloads, browser profile, local workspace, or local AI tools may be able to see local files or generated data. Use the Local Agent only on a personal or trusted laptop.

6. Hosted research features

Some features may use hosted services. Hosted features may process research questions, selected snippets, source metadata, project metadata, prompts, outputs, or other context you submit so that the requested feature can work.

ScholarAsk or related source-discovery features may query OpenAlex for scholarly metadata and source discovery. If cloud AI fallback or hosted AI processing is enabled, selected prompts and context may be sent to configured AI providers for inference.

Where possible, Cerise Scholar is designed to keep hosted processing limited to the feature you choose. The app should not upload your full private source-file workspace to hosted services unless a feature clearly asks for uploaded content or you choose to provide it.
